Air Balloon
My newest idea was to build a machinery which is half building and half “something that can fly”. The first idea was a zeppelin then I kept drawing until I ended up with this. Scale: 1:200. The building is made of paper, the structure of the balloon is made of toothpicks and then I covered it with paper from tea bags. The ropes are also from tea bags, their strings to be exact. It’s about 35 cm high. I built it in exactly 2 weeks. raskolnikov0610

Clock Tower
Here’s my latest model. It took about 3 months to build it, like the other ones. It’s in a 1:200 scale and is made of a 200g/m2 paper. I painted it with watercolour. It was quite hard to get it to balance, that’s why I put a small stone in the lower building. There was a lot of work with it…a lot. raskolnikov0610

Ominous, fantastical, and yet on some level that barely registers – these ‘boxes’ are familiar and comforting in a way unique to those corners in which we have previously peeked and will explore once more when we are slumbering and our subconscious holds sway. Again and again we will wind through our own personal, chaotic and connected dreamhouses – and M. Giai-Miniet appears to know this full well. Dreamhouses? Perhaps more like maisons de cauchemars. Marc Giai-Miniet‘s painstakingly detailed, mixed-media shadow-box installations are reminiscent of a vaguely ominous, fading nightmare; a slumbering visitation to a childhood home, dilapidated and abandoned, darkened corridors permeated with a surreal atmosphere of dusty déjà-vu. Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead & Jane Byrd McCall, Artists, White Pines, Byrdcliffe Art Colony, Woodstock, New York. This Morris chair is in Jane McCall’s bedroom. The door on the right leads to a sleeping porch. Jane made the painting and ceramic pots on display above the built-in chest of drawers. Artists’ Handmade Houses, published by Abrams with text written by Michael Gotkin and photography by Don Freeman, is a collection of handcrafted homes constructed between the late-19th century and mid 20-th century by the finest artists and craftsmen in America. Don Freeman captures the intimacy of these homes and the attention paid to every minute detail, from door knobs to stairwells to the structure of the house itself. The photographs in this book record exactly how the artists left the spaces when they dies or moved away. Some of the homes featured have been awarded National Historic Landmark status and several are open to the public, while some have fallen into disrepair or are in the hands of new owners.
