These amazing creations are the work of Sydney-based artist Lisa Rodden. Lisa has a varied background which stretches from colour consultation to interior design and more recently, working in the arts as a volunteer in Aboriginal communities – an experience which has taught her ‘the true value of our natural surroundings and community, the energy we get from the land and people, and the importance of nurturing our relationships with both’. Rebecca Wilson talks about her paper cup project, “The paper cup is an icon of the ‘throwaway culture’ and by imposing classical ceramic styling and transposing materials I aim to highlight and question our tendency towards wasteful consumerism. These cups are hand-built from cast sheets of handmade paper. They come in two different styles derivitave of traditional ceramic aestheitics. The ‘Jasperware’ version emulates Wedgewood’s iconic range using stained dyed paper and embossed relief details in white. And the Dutch classic ‘Blue Delft’ is alluded to in hand drawn decals in blue biro.” (via Beautiful/Decay Cult of the Creative Arts)
